Special Person Day: Each year, during the spring, we celebrate Special Person Day at St. Norbert Catholic School. On this day, SNCS students can invite a special guest onto campus to enjoy lunch together (traditionally provided by each student’s family) and watch our all-school Spring Music Performance. It is a day full of excitement and fun that usually begins with lunch and lasts through dismissal time at about 3 p.m.Annual Auction Dinner: St. Norbert Catholic School’s Annual Auction is the largest fundraiser of the year. Our auction committee (volunteers needed and welcome!) plans a lovely dinner dance accompanied by an extensive silent and live auction. We gather items to be auctioned off and depend heavily on the school families - soliciting donations from loc al businesses, friends or family; buying an item or creating a basket to donate to the auction; donating cash so the auction committee can purchase items to be auctioned off.
Each year the auction committee also sponsors various underwriting events. The underwriting events provide much of our seed money. An event such as ours comes with a price, of course, and the proceeds from Underwriting give the committee the cash flow it needs to organize the event. Ultimately, all this planning and preparation culminates in a wonderful celebration that benefits every student in our school.
Red Ribbon Week: Red Ribbon Week is our nation’s public-awareness campaign that promotes drug-free choices and healthful lives. St. Norbert Catholic School celebrates Red Ribbon Week with teachers incorporating age-appropriate anti-drug lessons in their teaching plans, and student council holding activities that support the positive aspects of a drug-free life.
Christmas Program: Each year, as the world awaits the celebration of the birth of Christ, we rejoice in the season at St. Norbert Catholic School with a formal all-school Christmas program. On this day, SNCS students invite family and friends to two performances held in the church, a matinee and evening show. The eighth grade presents a Christmas play with all grades singing carols throughout. Our music teacher dedicates class time to this effort months in advance, our eighth grade teacher prepares the cast, and everyone contributes to provide our community with this wonderful tradition. The Christmas program is a beautiful event that allows our students to outwardly celebrate their Catholic faith in a beautiful formal setting.
Catholic Schools Week: Every year in late January, St. Norbert Catholic School, along with Catholic schools throughout the nation, celebrates the existence and the mission of Catholic Schools with Catholic Schools Week. Recalling the core values Catholic education strives to instill in every student, teacher and school administrator, a new theme is chosen each year.
At St. Norbert Catholic School, we begin Catholic Schools Week with our parish community. After Sunday Mass we invite parishioners and guests to our pancake breakfast. On this day, everyone is welcome to visit our school’s Open House where they can peruse the Scholastic Book Fair, tour classrooms, talk with teachers and administrators, visit with other families and pick up applications for their children.
When the school week begins, the activities of each day focus on the virtues set forth in our theme. We hold outreach efforts to the local community, celebrate the lives of Saints, have a friendly volleyball competition between students and teachers, and have a lively Spirit Rally with all grades at the end of the week.
Talent Show: St. Norbert Catholic School strives to build talented individuals through a variety of creative opportunities. To that end, we are proud to present our Talent Show every year. With acts from students in grades three through eight, this event offers a safe and enjoyable venue for students to share their talent with the school. Each year we enjoy piano recitals, dance routines, comedy skits and singing. Our talent show coordinator enlists the help of students to hold regular rehearsal times, handle stage lighting, music and sound.
Field Day: As the school year winds down, spirits begin to rise at St. Norbert Catholic School. Each year, we capture that feeling in the last week of school and designate an entire day to celebrate the coming of summer vacation. Field Day is coordinated by our seventh grade, and includes outdoor games on the field, an all-school movie and a special lunch and snack bar. The seventh graders organize teams made up of students from all grade levels and coordinate the competitions and activities. The profits from the snack bar and hot lunch go to the Washington D.C./East Coast excursion for the following year. Every year this tradition creates memorable moments for everyone participating.
